Tinnitus Ringing in the ears Causes and Treatment

Have you been suffering from ringing in the ears, Tinnitus? Maybe you feel some ear congestion or pain?

Why do your ears seem to be giving you so much trouble, yet your doctor can’t find the source of the problem? You explain your symptoms, your doctor shines a light, takes a look around and…nothing. You know that ringing sound is real and you know you are occasionally hit with strong waves of dizziness so strong, that you are forced to hold on to something. A person with tinnitus often hears "ringing in the ears," but they may also hear clicking, whistling, or hissing. Lets look at tinnitus causes.

Tmj and Tinnitus: How Does TMJ Cause Tinnitus

TMJ and tinnitus can be related and often misdiagnosed. Ear congestion, persistent earaches, dizziness, vertigo, ringing or whistling in the ears. . . . all of these can all be traced to TMJ. To determine true tinnitus causes, the patient needs a proper diagnosis.

Technically, and medically, here’s what is happening: The over-activity of your jaw can make your ear canal sensitive, resulting in a myriad of symptoms.

Your ear has two important muscles: the tensor tympani (which attaches to the ear drum to stabilize it from excess vibration caused by loud sounds) and the tensor levi palatini (which attaches to the Eustachian tube  to  help equalize pressure within the inner ear…it is what “unplugs” your ears when you chew gum or suck a hard candy in an airplane).

Tinnitus Caused By TMJ: Other Symptoms

Because of jaw misalignment and over-compensation by these muscles, it can lead to a multitude of symptoms affecting your ears. These symptoms are caused by a strained bite when the jaw is not aligned.

Tmj and tinnitus: how does tmj cause tinnitus.

The jaw area is a complex network of muscles and nerves. When the bite is misaligned, muscles and nerves throughout your head, including your ears, can be affected. The most common and obvious symptom is persistent ringing or whistling in the ears. It can also lead to:

• dizziness
• vertigo
• ear pain/discomfort (earaches)
• impaired or restricted hearing
• a stuffy or congested feeling in your ears
• sinus pain
